The Intermag Conference is the premier annual conference on fundamental and applied magnetism sponsored by the IEEE Magnetics Society. The conference covered a wide range of topics that include spintronics, magnetization dynamics, biomagnetics, electrical machines and power transformers, memory and logics, data storage, sensors, hard and soft magnetic materials, and interdisciplinary and emerging topics. In 2024, the conference was held for the first time in South America, more specifically in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The conference program included oral and poster presentations, invited talks, symposia, tutorials, and a number of special sessions. For example, below you see an image where I was in a session called Meet the Editors, talking to editors of international scientific journals in the field of magnetism.
I had the excellent opportunity to present my work orally in the Magneto-Caloric Materials and Devices session, whose chair was Ekkes Brück. I also attended tutorials like machine learning, and meet leading researchers in my field. I came across several interesting works that intersect with what I do, paving the way for collaborations. I had the chance to go out for lunch or dinner with some international collaborators, including the group where I will work in Oviedo, Spain. It is worth mentioning that I had the valuable opportunity to assist as an organizer for a session of the Students in Magnetism (https://www.studentsinmagnetism.org/). Certainly, it was the most fun session of the conference, even featuring games and exciting competitions! Take a look at some pictures from this session below:
Finally, I served as a co-chair for the VP9 session on Multi-Functional Magnetic Materials and Applications II. Besides the excellent scientific experiences, it was a very vibrant week with my lab colleagues by the beach in Barra da Tijuca, and very close to the conference hotel, the Windsor. There was even time to go hiking the day after the conference on morro da Urca.
